The triennial Donggang King Boat Ceremony, a week-long event, features a vessel built for Wang Ye, a tutelary deity, parade through the town to expel and prevent the spread of plagues before taken to a local beach at midnight to set the boat on fire and send Wang Ye off back to heaven in Pingtung, Taiwan.
