Black cats are the least adopted cats from shelters, thought to be due to archaic superstitions of bad luck, or a more modern misnomer that black cats don't photograph well enough for Instagram. Calcifer and her rescue shelter mate Howl (photos also available) went un-adopted for a year and a half before finding their forever home.
