Living conditions, and a leak that caused fuel to pollute the ocean, were also detailed on this unannounced inspection. Traveling with Sea Shepherd here in 2019 on Operation Albacore, the Gabonese Fisheries inspect boats fishing in their waters. They arrive unannounced on any vessel. This Chinese trawler was boarded to check they were trawling with the correct size nets and complying with the law on all other matters, one of the fisheries department inspectors had spent time on this trawler previously and reported very poor living conditions for the workers who lived in basic conditions plagued by insects such as bed bugs and cockroaches. Trawling damages the marine environment and has a huge loss of marine life through bycatch which is just swept back into the waters.
