Local people gather in Combe Martin to celebrate The Hunting of The Earl of Rhone on 30th May in Combe Marin, North Devon, UK. After a two year hiatus due to the pandemic annual village tradition was back with a swing. The hunting of the Earl of Rhone was revivied during the 1970s but dates back to the 1600's. It's History goes back into antiquity, and although local legend has it that the Earl is the Earl of Tyrone who fled from Ireland in 1607, comparison of the ceremony with some of it's European Parallels indicates that it has it's roots in the pre-Christian seasonal rites of the ancient peoples.
