Francesca Sara Cauli
Hi, my name is Francesca Sara, I am an Italian photographer of music, events and portraiture, currently living and working in Bologna. I really love colors, the backlight, the movement on stage and I like to define “poptimist” my style and my approach to life.
By combining my great love of music with photography, I have now focused my professional eye on live music reportage including backstage and promo shootings. Every year I capture dozens of artists, both on stage and behind the scenes, closely monitoring the rock scene, in particular independent and underground, on a national and international scale.
I was a finalist in the 2010 edition of ‘Fotografare la Musica’, gaining recognition all over Italy and then in 2013 I went on to winning the prize for artistic innovation Marte Awards as “Best Live Photographer 2012”.
My publications include: Rolling Stone Magazine, The Guardian, MOJO, Il Mucchio Selvaggio, Rumore Magazine, La Repubblica XL, Rockerilla, Sentireascoltare, Popular Photography Magazine, Il Venerdì di Repubblica, La Repubblica, Il Corriere, Fotografare, Digital Camera, Il Resto del Carlino.
I have been the official Beaches Brew Festival photographer since its start in 2012. For the its entire duration, I curated the official photos of Dallalto in Bologna. In 2019 I have been the official photographer for the Italian festivals MiAmi Fest in Milan and Ferrara Sotto le Stelle in Ferrara.
About the music press, in 2011 I started the photography section for the media Sentireascoltare and now I manage the team of live photographers of the magazine. Since 2014 I also collaborate with the Italian monthly music press Rumore Magazine and RockIt.
In collaboration with Gallery 16, in 2019 I created my personal exhibit
She Rocks, concerning my investigation about the multiple identities of female musicians of my generation.
